Feuardent, Paris, London sd, pp. 462, 18, 16 cm, splendid coeval half-canvas binding, gold titles and decorations on the spine, plates and endpapers in fine marbled paper.

    Without a printing date, the volume reports in addition to the main address of the famous Parisian auction house, rue Vivienne 12, that of the first London branch, Haymarket 27, founded in 1867, which in January 1873 was moved to Great Russel Street. It can be deduced that the text was printed from 1867 to 1872.

    The volume is enriched by a file, linked to the end of the catalogue, on pp. 18, of which 5 written in elegant contemporary handwriting, with an index of imperial coins.

    This extraordinary collection, with many rarities, was established by Pasquale del Pezzo (Berlin 1859-Naples 1936), Duke of Caianello and Marquis of Campodisola. From 1884 he taught higher geometry and projective geometry at the University of Naples. He was dean of the Faculty of Sciences and later rector of the same university. From 1914 to 1917 he was also Mayor of Naples and from 1919, until his death, Senator of the Kingdom of Italy.

    Insignificant loss on the spine of 2 cm, slight traces of use and ordinary signs of aging, otherwise cataloged in excellent condition with solid binding.

    The Second Part is embellished by the indication of the creations in elegant coeval handwriting, next to each lot, and notes relating to the sale.

    Attached is a long and very interesting letter, dated Palombara April 22, 1882, in which the writer, having personally participated in the auction, communicates unpublished information on the conduct of the auction to a titled numismatist. For example, he claims to have bought one of the most important coins at auction, the gold Julius Caesar, and that immediately after having collected it he would have received extraordinary economic offers from America, refusing them. The letter also contains information of scientific interest, such as those relating to a treasure trove of 900 consular coins found in the Marcellino area. The Greek and Roman republican coins of the Depoletti Collection were presented in an additional section to the catalog, not included here.

    Slight signs of aging and minimal lacks on the back of the First Part, otherwise in excellent condition with solid bindings.

    Together unique and of great interest.
