A significant Neapolitan edition by Carlo Padiglione (1827-1921), one of Italy's leading scholars of heraldry and genealogy between the 19th and 20th centuries, librarian of the historic Brancacciana Library and member of the Heraldic Council of the Kingdom. This volume is part of his vast oeuvre dedicated to coats of arms, titles, and chivalric institutions, offering a systematic survey of the mottos adopted by orders, decorative medals, and honorary insignia of numerous countries, with a focus on their symbolic and heraldic traditions.
