Miscellanea

The Miscellanea category of Biblionumis gathers books, pamphlets and publications on various subjects which, although not directly belonging to the main fields of numismatics, possess historical, bibliographical, antiquarian or collectible interest. These are heterogeneous works selected for their cultural, documentary or scholarly value and often connected, directly or indirectly, with historical, antiquarian and bibliographical studies. The selection includes rare publications, out-of-print works, specialized studies, historical texts, catalogues, documentary materials and volumes devoted to complementary or related disciplines connected with numismatic literature. Many of the works included in this category preserve features of interest to scholars and collectors, such as distinguished provenances, handwritten annotations, contemporary bindings or fine illustrative material. The Miscellanea category is dedicated to works that are difficult to classify within the traditional sections of the catalogue, yet worthy of attention for their content, rarity or bibliographical significance. Every volume is selected with the same care reserved for the principal categories of the Biblionumis catalogue. Exploring the Miscellanea category means encountering unusual, rare or distinctive works capable of broadening perspectives on book collecting, antiquarian culture and the history of specialized studies.

Vico D'Incerti, A Century of Love, Politics, and...

    €18.00

Nunzia Manicardi, Vico D'Incerti, A Century of Love, Politics, and Industry, Il Fiorino Editions, Modena 2014, pp. 126, cm 21, br. ed.

A biography dedicated to the singular figure of Vico D'Incerti, engineer, industrial manager, inventor, and one of the most active Italian numismatists of the twentieth century, reconstructed by Nunzia Manicardi based on the protagonist's personal diaries and private documentation. The volume provides a profile of a man intimately connected to the development of Italian industry in the first half of the twentieth century, to which he contributed through numerous patents and design projects, particularly distinguishing himself in the fields of photography and film. Of particular interest is the reference to the famous Ferrania "Rondine," a photographic camera that became an emblem of Italian production of the period and one of the most famous creations associated with D'Incerti. The work is part of the tradition of Italian technical-industrial memoirs, while also offering a glimpse into twentieth-century entrepreneurial and scientific culture.

Zamboni Fezzi, The evolution of the typology of...

    €180.00

Giacomina Zamboni Fezzi, The Evolution of the Typology of the Roman Emperor in Historical Relief, supervisor Professor Luciano Laurenzi, University of Bologna, Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, Bologna 1950, pp. 176 typewritten recto, 29 cm, book binding with titles on the front cover.

A thorough and comprehensive thesis on the development of Roman imperial iconography, crafted according to a rigorous scientific framework and based on the systematic cataloguing and comparative analysis of a vast corpus of works from the imperial age. With remarkable methodological maturity, the work addresses the progressive definition of the figure of the Roman emperor through his celebratory and official formulations, tracing the stylistic and ideological transformations from the early imperial age to his later developments.

The thesis was defended under the direction of Luciano Laurenzi (1902-1966), an eminent archaeologist and classical art historian, a member of the Accademia dei Lincei, former director of the Italian Archaeological School in Athens, and a leading figure in twentieth-century Italian archaeological studies. Among his numerous positions, he served as Superintendent of Antiquities in Milan, director of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna, and professor of Archaeology and History of Greek and Roman Art at the University of Bologna.

This copy, typewritten on watermarked paper, contains numerous corrections, additions, and handwritten additions by the author, elements that enhance its documentary interest as a direct testimony to the text's development. It also features Giacomina Zamboni Fezzi's pen-pencil signature.

A document of significant interest for the history of archaeological studies and Roman imperial iconography.

Rizzo, Thiasos, Greek bas-reliefs of Dionysian...

    €200.00

Giulio Emanuele Rizzo, Thiasos, Greek bas-reliefs of Dionysian subjects, edited by the author, Rome 1934, richly illustrated with beautiful images, 2 splendid vellum-covered plates, one on the frontispiece and one at the end of the volume, 36 cm, bound in all black cloth with gold titles on the spine, edition booklet on the front cover.

Work printed in 250 numbered copies, this is no. 152.

A volume of great breadth and rare typographic elegance, it naturally fits into the same scholarly and editorial vein as Giulio Emanuele Rizzo's major publications on Greek coinage, from which it consciously adopts the format, structure, and editorial style: "Preliminary Essays on the Art of Money in Greek Sicily" (Rome 1938), "Intermezzo. New Archaeological Studies on Greek Coins in Sicily" (Rome 1939), and "Greek Coins in Sicily" (Rome 1946). Thiasos also contains sporadic numismatic references, inserted by the author within the broader and more coherent framework of the iconographic analysis of the bas-reliefs. Giulio Emanuele Rizzo was a leading archaeologist and numismatist, Director of the National Roman Museum, and a university professor. His studies, particularly those dedicated to the Greek coinage of Sicily, are considered fundamental for their rigor and depth of vision and have significantly influenced 20th-century Italian archaeological and numismatic historiography.
