Semata and Signa. Series of Monetary Iconography Studies, 8.

Proceedings of the III International Study Meeting of the Lexicon Iconographicum Numismaticae (Bologna, 12-13 September 2013).

The volume collects the contributions presented on the occasion of the international conference Money and territorial identity: from the ancient polis to the medieval civitas, held in Bologna on 12 and 13 September 2013. The intent of the publication is to offer an articulated vision on the proposed theme. , through the contributions of specialists from different disciplinary sectors, who offered the starting point for scientific reflections and comparisons. Within the extensive examination proposed, the numismatic documentation was analyzed in a diachronic and diatopic vision, according to the reading method proposed by the LIN project (Lexicon Iconographicum Numismaticae), which identifies the expression of a communicative language connected to the different cultural, political and ideological contexts from which it springs. In fact, attention was paid to the Greek and Roman world, but also to medieval reality and the dynamics of communication that are its own, identifying aspects of continuity or discontinuity with respect to the previous tradition.
